Satisfying Zambian hunger for culture by Mwizenge
Tembo, published in the Times of Zambia: forward with a
nation in November of 2011 and accessed on November 28, 2011.
Summary:
This article discusses a book’s authors trying to find a publisher. The book is to help Zambians define their culture, to take tradition and to combine it with modern influences to bring the 72
tribes culturally together. “The diversity of the Zambian culture has created a cultural crisis, a void, tension, ambivalence, and turmoil among most” and this article is to promote the book “Satisfying Zambian hunger for culture” in order to solve this crisis. It talks of things in the book and of the need to read it to define Zambian culture to confused Zambians.

My Thoughts:
This is very interesting. My other countries have very rich and
heavily defined cultural aspects both of the past and the present but Zambia has
so many people who became separate of each other and isolated. Because they
isolated themselves so much they all grew knew thoughts and culture over
everything. For children growing up in Zambia it is hard to really know what
culture is because they see a new world of technology but yet they are still
stuck in disarray with their own changing traditions and their own physical and
mental problems. This article makes me sad that such a confusion can exist but
hopeful that they seem to be embracing change.

How it relates to culture:
The article prompts “If you are a Zambian you may wonder about these (listed questions
and factors) and many other topics that personally involve you and your family
about our Zambian culture and technology”. What is interesting is that this
article is not trying to redefine Zambian culture but to actually classify and
define it in the first place. This article lays out a few of the policies from
wide spread Zambian tradition that should be followed but also newer ideas in
certain groups and tribes that will benefit a family. This relates to culture
because it is intended to spread a consistent culture that can unify Zambia as a
nation and people.
